CO2 laser resurfacing is a gold-standard, medically advanced treatment that resurfaces damaged skin by precisely removing damaged outer layers and stimulating collagen remodeling. It treats deep lines, acne scars, sun damage, uneven texture, and laxity to reveal smoother, firmer, more youthful skin.

Why CO2 Is a Top Choice

  • Powerful collagen stimulation: Delivers deep thermal remodeling for long-lasting firmness and texture improvement.
  • Precise and controlled: Fractional or full-field settings let us tailor depth and intensity for individual concerns.
  • Versatile results: Effective for wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, sun damage, and skin laxity in a single treatment plan.
  • Durable outcomes: Many patients see dramatic improvement that continues to improve over months as collagen rebuilds.
  • Fewer repeat sessions: Deeper remodeling often requires fewer treatments than gentler modalities.

What Makes It Right For You CO2- resurfacing is ideal if you have moderate-to-advanced photoaging, deep lines, acne scarring, or texture irregularity and want significant, lasting improvement.

What to Expect — The Treatment Course

  • Consultation: Review medical history, medications, skin type, and photos to set realistic goals and treatment plan
  • Pre-treatment preparation: Prescription topical antivirals for some patients, skin priming with 100% hyaluronic acid agents as advised, and sun protection.
  • On treatment day: Numbing cream applied 1 hour prior to treatment. You may also use ProNox anesthesia during the procedure. The laser passes over target areas; procedure time varies (30–90+ minutes) depending on area and intensity.
  • Sensation during treatment: Heat, stinging or strong warming sensation during passes; cooling breaks are provided. Goal is minimal discomfort which is why we utilize multiple treatment modalities.
  • Immediate aftermath: Treated skin appears red, raw, and swollen.

Typical Timeline & Healing Expectations

  • Days 0–3: Intense redness, swelling, and oozing/crusting for deeper/full treatments. Pain is controlled with medications and cool compresses.
  • Days 4–7: Crusting/peeling gives way to new pink skin.
  • Weeks 2–4: Pinkness fades; texture and tone improve; sunscreen is essential.
  • Months 1–6: Continued collagen remodeling and progressive tightening; final results typically visible by 3–6 months.

Realistic Results Expect significant improvement in lines, scars, texture, and tone; multiple sessions may be recommended for some concerns. Results last years with proper sun protection and maintenance.

Contraindications & Cautions

  • Active infection (including cold sores/HSV) — must be treated/controlled prior to treatment.
  • Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use — typically contraindicated within the last 6–12 months.
  • Certain skin types and higher Fitzpatrick skin tones carry increased risk of hyper- or hypopigmentation and scarring; candidacy evaluated individually.
  • Autoimmune disease, poor wound healing, uncontrolled diabetes, or anticoagulation may preclude treatment or require medical clearance.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — generally deferred.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

  • Schedule a consultation and disclose medical history, medications, and recent procedures.
  • Avoid isotretinoin for the recommended washout period.
  • Start skin-priming agents if advised (hyaluronic adic)
  • Avoid major sun exposure and tanning for 2–4 weeks before treatment.
  • Stop blood-thinning supplements/NSAIDs as directed by your provider.
  • Arrange transportation and time off for recovery

Post-Treatment Care (General)

  • Immediate: Keep area clean, use prescribed ointments/cleanser, and apply cool compresses to control swelling. Follow provider’s wound-care regimen exactly.
  • Avoid picking crusts — allow natural shedding to prevent scarring.
  • Pain control: Use prescribed or recommended analgesics. Antiviral medication may be prescribed to prevent cold sore outbreaks.
  • Sun protection: Avoid sun exposure and use broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 once healed; wear a wide-brim hat.
  • Skincare resumption: Restart active topicals (retinoids, vitamin C) only when cleared by your provider — usually several weeks post-procedure.
  • Follow-up: Attend scheduled check-ins to monitor healing and manage pigmentation or other concerns.

Risks & Side Effects

  • Common: Redness, swelling, crusting, temporary pigment changes, prolonged pinkness.
  • Less common but serious: Infection, scarring, permanent pigment alteration. Risk is minimized by proper patient selection and post-care.
