WHAT MEMBERSHIP DOES NOT REPLACE
NAVIGATING CARE IN MAINE
Maine’s limited supply of specialists can make healthcare difficult to access and coordinate. Through established relationships and collaborative arrangements, I make every effort to help Blue
Harbor patients obtain timely specialty care — personally calling, advocating on your behalf, and communicating with your other providers to move your care forward.
Med-Spa Concierge FAQ
The basics
What is concierge medicine?
Concierge medicine is a membership with a private physician who keeps a small number of patients, so each one gets direct access, unhurried visits and personal attention.
Who is my doctor?
Your physician is Olivia Carter, MD, a family doctor who practiced traditional primary care for years before opening Blue Harbor Medical in Camden, Maine.
Why only 50 patients?
Fifty is the number that lets Dr. Carter answer her own phone, make house calls and know your history without opening a chart. A typical primary care doctor has 2,000 or more patients.
Membership and payment
How does payment work?
Membership is paid in full, upfront, at the start of your membership term. Paying this way lets us hold your place among our 50 patients for the entire term and plan our time around you.
Is membership refundable?
Membership fees and services are not refundable. We know that is a real commitment, and we would rather be clear about it now than surprise you later.
The reason is simple. When you join, we reserve one of only 50 places for you and turn away others who would have taken it. For that reason we encourage you to meet with Dr. Carter and ask every question you have before you enroll. We want you to feel sure.
What if my circumstances change during my term?
Please talk to us. Fees are not refundable, and your membership and full access remain yours through the end of your term. We will do everything we can to make that time as useful to you as possible.
Is membership health insurance?
No. Membership is not insurance. We recommend keeping your health insurance for hospital care, specialists, imaging, prescriptions and emergencies.
Are there services that cost extra?
Some services fall outside membership and are paid for separately. We will always tell you the cost before anything is done, so there are no surprises.
When your membership term ends
What happens at the end of my term?
As your term nears its end, we will reach out so you have plenty of time to decide. You have two options, and both are perfectly fine with us.
- Renew. Most members do. Renewing keeps your place and your care continues without a gap.
- Move on. If you decide not to renew, we will help you transfer your care to another provider.
What if I choose not to renew?
We will miss you, and we will make the transition easy. Once a membership term has ended, we are no longer able to provide ongoing care, so you will need a new provider.
We will send your complete records wherever you ask, give your new provider a summary of your care, and make sure prescriptions and follow-ups do not fall through the cracks during the handoff.
Can I come back later?
You are always welcome to rejoin if a place is open. Because the practice is limited to 50 patients, we cannot promise one will be available, which is why renewing is the surest way to keep your spot.
Access and services
How do I reach Dr. Carter?
Directly. Members contact their physician without a phone tree or a waiting list.
Do you make house calls?
Yes. House calls are part of membership for patients in the Camden area.
What does membership include?
Membership includes direct access to your physician, house calls, executive physicals, IV therapy and help getting in with specialists.
Can you help me get a specialist appointment?
Yes. We advocate to get you seen sooner, send your records ahead and go over the specialist’s findings with you afterward.
Can my family be included?
Yes. Family members can be part of your membership, so one physician knows the whole household.
What about emergencies?
For a life-threatening emergency, call 911 first. Then let us know, and we will coordinate with the hospital team and follow up with you afterward.
